Eco Ramblings First and foremost on my mind these days is the gulf oil spill. Please take time to beam love and light to that ecosystem,as well as appreciating what we have right here. Is it spring or summer? It has been hard to tell! For me, May has whizzed by and June is always a busy, fun month. My family enjoys Father's Day, our anniversary (Really? 21 years...?), graduations, watching the garden grow, wishing the tomatoes were faster... One of my age gauges is my nephew, who is 21 and graduating from college, making me a very proud auntie. We'll carpool with Grandma to UCSD for his graduation. He was 9 months old when we started dating. That same weekend, I'll be ignoring my birthday (it's one of those in-between years anyway), having a blast with relatives I haven't visited for a while, and believe it or not, happy to be AWAY from greenspace! You'll forgive me if I enjoy a little time off, right? We'll be back for a week, then off for our eco-vacation via family sleeper train car to Portland. You know you are a green nerd when you have dinner with manufacturers on your vacation! I'll get to meet more pals at Yolo Colorhouse. The owners, Ginnie and Janie, were here recently, but I haven't seen Puji for a long time, and I'm dying to meet Kim. Puji is an amazing artist, and we'll be carrying her painted ceramics in the store soon, as well as some wall art. One more thing: it looks like we will break even this month. It just makes my heart sing. I simply cannot ever, in a million years, thank each and everyone of you enough for helping us stay alive over these past couple of years. This is also my chance to publicly appreciate the staff as well, both past and present. Onward!

PG&E Energy Efficiency Classes Integrating Energy Efficiency and Renewables in Home Retrofits Santa Cruz--Police Dept. Community Room Friday, June 11 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The most effective way to lower energy use and greenhouse gasses is to go beyond a specific-technology focus and take a whole-system approach to buildings. This is the direction in which policies and incentive programs are moving, with the goal being to find the best combination of technologies to lower a building's energy footprint as much as possible.
The instructor will detail this whole-building perspective, beginning with the science of building performance, which studies how all energy systems in a building work together. We will discuss key energy efficiency measures, how to assess their potential in the home, and what their implementation would do to reduce the size of proposed renewable energy systems. We will then cover cost scenarios and ROI calculations.
This residential class is a prerequisite for the follow-up class focusing on commercial buildings. Class is suitable for a wide range of contractors, facility managers, architects, designers, homeowners, and the general public. Register Here
